In Trump’s inaugural address, he broke sharply with post-war tradition by stating with nationalistic fervor that “From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land. From this day forward, it’s going to be only America first, America first.” The full extent to which Trump will abandon long-standing alliances and multilateral frameworks is yet to be seen.
One decision-maker will be Kenneth I. Juster. Trump has announced that Juster will be the U.S. Sherpa for the G7 and G20 and Deputy Assistant to the President for International Economic Affairs. Juster, who is currently a private-equity partner at Warburg Pincus, will be near the center of action, forging the administration’s economic and trade policy in collaboration with the Treasury, Commerce and State departments as well as the office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
