Waterloo, Canada — The Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) is pleased to award 26 graduate scholarships for the 2015-16 academic year to outstanding PhD, SJD and LLM students who are conducting research related to the think tank’s International Law Research Program (ILRP).

The one-year Graduate Scholarships in International Law are valued at CDN $24,000 for PhD and SJD students and CDN $16,000 for LLM students. They include a flexible period of residency at the award-winning CIGI Campus. The recipient graduate students will have the opportunity to exchange ideas with each other; researchers with CIGI’s international law, global economy, and global security & politics programs; and faculty at the Balsillie School of International Affairs.

“CIGI and its International Law Research Program are pleased to congratulate this year’s outstanding scholarship students and welcome them to the CIGI Campus,” says Oonagh Fitzgerald, Director of the ILRP at CIGI. “With rigorous scholarship comes great success, and these students are clearly excelling in their study of emerging issues in international economic law, international environmental law and intellectual property law. I believe they will thrive in CIGI’s environment of innovation and collaboration and I wish them all the best as they use their advanced legal studies to explore and find solutions to some of the most critical issues facing the global community.” 

The International Law Research Program at CIGI is a 10-year initiative, jointly funded by CIGI and Ontario’s Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. The law program leverages academic, business and governmental perspectives to improve international law for better global governance. The program strengthens understanding of international law by connecting knowledge, policy and practice. The program focuses on international economic law, international intellectual property law and international environmental law.
