CONTACT: mediaservices@aei.org / 202.862.5829 The US economy added 214,000 jobs in the month of October and the unemployment rate dropped to an six-year low at 5.8 percent. With another solid jobs report – the estimates for job growth in August and September were also revised upward today – the economy and labor market continue to recover steadily. There is still plenty of room for improvement in the economy and labor market. Some problems that remain are the significant long-term unemployed, workers who have stopped looking for jobs, and fairly flat wage growth. All these issues could use attention from the new Congress and President Obama to help struggling Americans and their communities. AEI economist Michael Strain writes on today’s report that the door is open for the new Congress to get to work: AEI economist Aparna Mathur says that the report is a good sign, but there are a few items to continue to track: To arrange an interview with Strain, Mathur, or another AEI scholar, contact a media services team member or email mediaservices@aei.org (202.862.5829).
