In the spirit of intellectual freedom and the competition of ideas, AEI is a place where leaders, practitioners, and intellectuals from across the ideological spectrum come together to discuss ideas for a better world. As Arthur Brooks writes in Medium, this month is no exception. Between now and the end of June, AEI will host the following public and private events:
Speaker of the House Paul Ryan will join AEI to discuss how we can modernize American healthcare.
Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer, will join AEI for an exclusive one-on-one conversation on breakthrough innovations, the competition of ideas, and Facebook’s stated mission to open up the world.
Melinda Gates of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will join AEI for another exclusive conversation. The discussion will focus on the transformative progress made in the past 15 years in reducing poverty and disease across the globe and how we can achieve more progress in the next two decades.
Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn will come to AEI to discuss the important topic of criminal justice reform, a topic that AEI has already collaborated with the White House on earlier this year.
The expert, bipartisan authors of a new proposal for corporate tax reform will speak at a joint event that AEI is co-hosting with our left-leaning friends at the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center.
A host of prominent Catholic leaders and intellectuals, including His Eminence Donald Cardinal Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington, and The Most Reverend Robert E. Barron, Auxiliary Bishop of Los Angeles will deliver a keynote address to bookend AEI as part of a day-long conference with Catholic leaders on the role of Catholic teachings in public life today.
Chris Brose and Bob Simmons, the staff directors of the Senate and House Armed Services Committees will discuss the politics and policy of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
In the last few weeks, we’ve also hosted:
Senator Mitch McConnell, the U.S. Senate majority leader, joined AEI to discuss his new memoir in an exclusive interview with journalist Matt Lewis. Watch here.
Ambassador Robert Holleyman, the Deputy United States Trade Representative Ambassador, came to AEI to give a keynote speech on TPP and the impact that new trade agreements might have on digital commerce. Watch here.
Senators Cory Gardner (R-CO) and Mark Warner (D-VA) spoke at a special event that AEI’s Global Internet Strategy project held on Capitol Hill. The event highlighted a landmark new report from AEI researchers: “An American Strategy for Cyberspace: Advancing Freedom, Security, and Prosperity.”
Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, a member of President Obama’s cabinet, joined AEI for an important speech on how the Administration understands the intersection of America’s and China’s economies. Watch here.
