Washington, DC — American Enterprise Institute (AEI) President Arthur C. Brooks announced today that Daniel A. D’Aniello — who has served on the AEI Board of Trustees since March 2009 and as vice chairman since October 2013 — has been named co-chairman of the board for 2017–18. Mr. D’Aniello joins Tully M. Friedman, chairman of AEI’s Board of Trustees since January 2013.
Daniel D’Aniello is the chairman and cofounder of The Carlyle Group. Before forming Carlyle in 1987, he was vice president for finance and development at Marriott Corporation. Earlier in his career, Mr. D’Aniello was a financial officer at PepsiCo Inc. and Trans World Airlines.
“My colleagues and I are enormously grateful for the strong leadership and generous support that Dan brings to AEI,” said Dr. Brooks. “Dan embodies the values on which AEI is founded. He is dedicated to the pursuit of a better world for all people and believes that free enterprise is the key not only to America’s success but to lifting up the poor and vulnerable around the world.”
“It is an honor to serve with Dan on AEI’s Board of Trustees,” said Mr. Friedman. “Dan is a visionary American entrepreneur who embodies the ethos of AEI’s mission of freedom, opportunity, and free enterprise. We are tremendously lucky to have him as a leader of our community.”
“I am deeply humbled by the trust placed in me by AEI’s board,” said Mr. D’Aniello. “AEI and I are perfectly aligned in the belief that free enterprise is the key to prosperous communities and thriving individuals. AEI’s work is as important today as it has ever been, and I look forward to working with Tully, Arthur, and AEI’s community to increase our reach and impact.”
