Washington, DC (April 7, 2017) — President Donald Trump today announced his intent to nominate American Enterprise Institute (AEI) economist Kevin A. Hassett as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA). Hassett, a 20-year scholar at AEI, is currently the State Farm James Q. Wilson Chair in American Politics and Culture and the director of research for domestic policy.
Hassett has served as an economic adviser to Republican presidential candidates John McCain, George W. Bush, and Mitt Romney. He has also been a policy consultant to the US Department of the Treasury in both the George H. W. Bush and William J. Clinton administrations. Before joining AEI, Hassett was a senior economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and an associate professor of economics and finance at Columbia Business School. He has a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. in economics from Swarthmore College.

If confirmed, Hassett will join a distinguished line of AEI scholars to chair the CEA.
