The United States’ reputation as a creedal nation does not mean it has no use for nationalism, argues National Review Editor Rich Lowry in his book “The Case for Nationalism: How It Made Us Powerful, United, and Free” (Broadside Books, 2019). Rather, nationalism has been a thread running through American political thought from the Revolution to the end of the Cold War. Although tainted by its association with racism and militarism, nationalism is a crucial force for sustaining democratic self-government and international peace in the modern era.
Please join AEI for a discussion between AEI’s Yuval Levin and Mr. Lowry on what a healthy American nationalism looks like and how it can help promote prosperity at home and security abroad in the 21st century.
