The IPCC Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) submitted by Working Group III was adopted in general meeting in Berlin in April 2014 and published. The report describes the Working Group's assessment concerning policies and measures for curbing and reducing greenhouse gases or mitigating climate change, and also assesses the choices for a variety of administrative-level entities and economy sectors, as well as evaluating various types of mitigation measures to see if they would make any impact on society. This symposium is organized by METI to introduce the latest finding of the report and to enhance understanding on mitigation of climate change. RITE is entrusted to investigate the WGIII report by METI and will also hold the symposium as a co-organizer. As one of the lectures to be made during the opening section of the symposium, Dr. Ottmar Edenhofer (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research), Co-Chair of Working Group III of the IPCC will deliver a keynote speech. Also, other experts inside and outside Japan (Keywan Riahi(IIASA), Taishi Sugiyama(CRIEPI), Keigo Akimoto(RITE))who authored the report will introduce the key points of the report. The latter half is a panel discussion, the speakers above and the experts from industry will discuss and debate concerning mitigation strategy.
