On September 3, The Worldwatch Institute and the INCAE Business School’s Latin American Center for Competitiveness and Sustainable Development (CLACDS), with support from the Climate Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) and the Energy and Environment Partnership with Central America (EEP), will host the workshop “The Way Forward for Renewable Energy in Central America” in Alajuela, Costa Rica. Taking place the day before the Latin American Energy Organization’s annual Latin America and Caribbean Electricity Symposium, the workshop will take the form of a participative dialogue to promote the exchange of ideas and experiences between a select group of experts, industry delegates and government representatives of each Central American country. During the workshop, initial findings of an ongoing Worldwatch-CLACDS Project will be presented and discussed. The ultimate goal of this project, as well as this stakeholder consultation is the design of a technical, socio-economic and political roadmap defining concrete steps toward rapidly expanding the adoption of renewable energy technologies in Central America. Experts from a range of renewable energy professions will present best practice case studies and how to replicate such examples. Individual contributions will be discussed in break-out groups or ‘action labs’ during the workshop. Involvement in the project will extend beyond the workshop itself through ongoing participation in the project’s future events as well as a moderated online forum, forming a community of experts committed to advance renewable energy in Central America.
