On September 18, the Worldwatch Institute is co-hosting the launch of Gus Speth's America the Possible: Manifesto for a New Economy. The third in a series of award-winning books from Yale University Press, the book charts a course through the discouragement and despair commonly felt today, and ultimately envisions what Speth calls America the Possible, an attractive and plausible future that we can still realize. It identifies a dozen features of the American political economy where transformative change is essential, and spells out the changes that are needed to move toward a new political economy to sustain people, place, and the planet.
After a presentation from Speth, Institute for Policy Studies Director John Cavanagh will moderate a discussion. Gus Speth is a co-founder of the Natural Resources Defense Council and the World Resources Institute, a former head of the UN Development Program, and a former Dean of the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.
