Official German Launch of State of the World 2016 Tuesday, June 7, 2016 7:00 pm | Doors open at 6:30 pm GIZ-Haus, Berlin Urbanization is one of the main trends of our time: The population in cities is growing steadily and their demand for natural resources is increasing. Therefore, global challenges require increasingly urban solutions. For the sustainable development of cities to provide a global framework, the "New Urban Agenda" will be adopted, the draft of which will be discussed internationally at the October 2016 UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III). Against this background, the Worldwatch Institute asks Can a City Be Sustainable? in State of the World 2016. Internationally recognized experts will present in a cross-section of current knowledge on the sustainable development of cities. As part of the official book launch in Germany and subsequent panel discussion, we draw on the findings of the reports and analyze them in the light of current developments.
