This report—which was supported by R. Andreas Kraemer—deals with options, opportunities, and preconditions of a deregulated, more sustainable water management system. In this article, the authors present an overview of different types of competition in the water management industry, methods for increasing competitive pressure, as well as the potential dangers of deregulation.
