How does ex-combatant youth and other conflict-affected youth use motorcycling as a livelihood strategy to navigate the many challenges of post-war life and facilitate social, economic and political reintegration? How can aid agencies and NGOs better assist conflict-affected youth?
The highs and lows that young motorcycle riders face every day is a critical aspect to understanding problems of reconciliation, insecurity and limited economic opportunity for young people in post-war environments. In Liberia, motorcycling is also a laboratory for youth-led reintegration ideas and initiatives, where riders hustle to survive, nurture social connections, launch political activism, and resist social stigma and marginalization.
The presentation will address these issues and explore possible external contributions, including programs for union professionalization, security and safety workshops and educational scholarships.
