□ On November 20, a delegation from China's National Academy of Innovation Strategy (hereinafter 'NAIS') visited STEPI (President, Hwang-Hee Cho).
□ The visit by the four-member NAIS delegation including NAIS Vice President Deng Fang was made upon the request of NAIS. Their visit was intended to benchmark STEPI, Korea's leading S&T policy think tank, and to explore bilateral STI cooperation between the two countries.
○ The meeting with the NAIS delegation started off with the introduction of respective institutes and their key research activities. After this brief introduction, the two sides discussed the key features, development path and policy environment of Korea's S&T policy think tank, shared STEPI's S&T policy related experiences to the benefit of the sustainable development of NAIS, and explored cooperative research possibilities for promoting bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
○ The two sides also agreed on the need to set a venue for cooperative research on S&T policy and strategy planning and exchanged views on how to set such venue.
□ The meeting between STEPI and the NAIS delegation started off with the welcoming remarks by STEPI Vice-President Dr. Chi Ung Song, which was soon followed by presentations on "Exploration of the Korean Development Model and Changes in Korea’s Growth Engine Policy" by STEPI Research Fellow Dr. Byong-Sam Choi and "Trade Disputes between Korea, China and Japan and Their Implications for S&T Cooperation" by STEPI Associate Research Fellow Dr. Seo In Baek.
□ "Cooperation with China is important for Korea’s sustainable growth through STI. I look forward that the NAIS delegation's visit to STEPI serves as a momentum for promoting closer bilateral cooperation in building a foundation for S&T development and innovation,” said STEPI President Dr. Hwang-Hee Cho.
□ NAIS is directly under the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST). The key responsibilities of NAIS include research on S&T activities and STI policies, promotion of innovation culture, and S&T assessment and consulting.
