摘要 | Examines M+C participation issues from the perspective of eight national firms that account for more than 70 percent of M+C enrollment nationwide. Notes that M+C products generally do not represent a major line of business for most firms, with the exception of Humana and PacifiCare, where M+C enrollees represent more than 20 percent of total HMO enrollment. Although all firms plan to continue offering an M+C product, they are attempting to reduce financial exposure by withdrawing from markets they deem to be unsustainable. Participation decisions are made county-by-county based on payment rates, number and intensity of administrative requirements, and ability of the plan to develop and maintain an adequate provider network. Concludes that the current relationship between national managed care firms and the M+C program is tenuous, and most firms do not envision a long-term relationship. |
