ABIDJAN/ROME – The Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), David Beasley, will be on an official visit to Côte d’Ivoire from 24 to 25 March.

During his visit, Beasley will participate in the inauguration of the Regional Centre of Excellence Against Hunger and Malnutrition and have meetings with senior government officials in Abidjan.

“The Government of Côte d’Ivoire has made the fight against malnutrition and hunger a key part of its development agenda because after emerging from a decade-long political crisis  it understands there cannot be security without food security.  The country has developed successful models, like homegrown school feeding, creating opportunities for rural smallholder farmers, particularly women. Through a Centre of Excellence, Côte d’Ivoire is committed to partnering with other countries to scale-up best practices on hunger solutions.”

WFP’s Executive Board approved US$83 million five year Country Strategic Plan (CSP) for Côte d’Ivoire in February. The CSP aligns with the Ivorian Government’s priorities for inclusive growth and seeks to contribute to achieving food security and improved nutrition through gender-transformative and nutrition-sensitive policies and programmes.
