摘要

Pakistan is particularly affected by climate change. At the same time, there is a lack of reliable short-term and medium-term information regarding climate risks, the likelihood of extreme weather events and appropriate adaptation strategies. Hence, our objective in this project is twofold, namely first, to gain a better understanding of the diverse climate risks in Pakistan, ranging from changing temperature and precipitation patterns to impacts on sectors like water, agriculture and health, and second, to develop effective adaptation strategies in the agricultural sector. To achieve this objective, we will conduct a compact climate risk analysis, based on the latest scientific findings and modelling data, and tailored to the needs of relevant decision-makers in Pakistan. This analysis will be complemented by an in-depth needs assessment for the agricultural sector, which will be developed in cooperation with local partners at the sub-national level. These two components will lay out the foundation for a methodology for systematic assessment, prioritisation and implementation of appropriate adaptation strategies at the local level in Pakistan, which will inform national adaptation planning and implementation of the NDCs.
