This briefing provided additional information to the European Parliament Environment Committee to assist it with the decision as to whether a proposed ban on portable batteries with a lead content over 40 parts per million should be supported. It outlined the state of the market and the types of battery and application that would be affected by the proposed ban, the availability of substitutes, and whether there were grounds for exemptions if a ban were introduced.
