Commission Publishes Proposed Regulation on Cars and Carbon Dioxide

After months of analysis and heated internal debate, the Commission published on 19 December 2007 its proposal for a Regulation to reduce CO2 from cars (COM(2007)856 final). This is a radical measure setting mandatory limits on car makers to reduce average CO2 emissions to 130g/km on average for new cars by 2012, and marks an end to the current approach of voluntary agreements.
