摘要	Motorola Inc. first introduced the concept of a roadmap in the 1970s as a kind of strategic planning tool. This paper argues that roadmapping can also be a useful way to manage knowledge in academia and to support scientific research. By applying the principles of interactive methodology, this paper puts forward a new methodology for making personal academic research roadmaps as a way of knowledge management in academia. This methodology is composed of six phases: forming groups, explanation from knowledge coordinators, description of present situation, current status and idealized design reports from every member, research and study schedules, and implementation and control. After introducing the approach, a case study describing the application of the methodology at the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology is given.
