摘要 | This chapter discusses the system models for water quality management linked with integrated regional development planning in the Kinki region of Japan. The macro socioeconomic model will provide an optimal allocation of population and industries subject to global environmental constraints so as to attain a well-balanced development by diminishing the prefectural difference of Gross Regional Products, social overhead capital, and so on. The pollution emission model is built to calculate a possible pollutant load for the specific river basin using the fundamental data of pollution sources, such as biochemical oxygen demand, nutrients of nitrogen, and phosphorous from the macro socioeconomic model. In this model, special attention is focused on the load calculation of the nutrients because nitrogen and phosphorous are considered as the key elements of the eutrophication process in fresh and sea water. It is well known that algae growth, a result of eutrophication, have caused serious damages to the ecological balance and to the quality of water for human use and aquatic life. |
