摘要Vulnerability of electricity transmission is influenced by several factors. First, these are the requirements of new grid architecture, which needs to integrate growing volumes of volatile geogrpahically disperse renewable energy sources and technical solutions, like smart grids. Second, these are challenges caused by aging infrastructure, bottle necks in areas of interconnectors, pushing the grids to the limits of their capacity and difficulties to upgrade and deploy new grids due to public protests. Third, these are impacts of existing risks, such as natural hazards, which destroy electricity transmission infrastructure (cyclones, earthquakes, etc.) and impact electricity transmission capacity (heat waves), but also of emerging risks such as cyber threats.
