The overall objective of the project is to asses to what extent improve stoves help in reducing poverty, by letting women participate in labor market and promote gender equality. The project will do so by evaluating the impact of improved stoves on women labor force participation.
This paper contributes to the literature by providing a micro perspective on the impact of improved cookstoves on household outcomes that are overlooked by previous studies. To the best of our knowledge this is the first paper to look at on these indirect effects even though there are growing number studies dealing on the direct impact of improved stoves such as indoor air pollution, health and fuel demand. The result of paper will complement to these existing studies, which looks at more at the direct impact. The results of the study have policy implications for the government of Ethiopia, which plans to disseminate 11 million improved cook stoves within 5 years. Further, it will have contribution in evaluating the contribution of energy interventions in achieving the targets set by Ethiopian climate resilient green economy strategy.
