摘要

Waterloo, Canada – September 9, 2010 – Paul Jenkins, former Senior Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada, joined The Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) today as a CIGI Distinguished Fellow. Bringing significant experience to his new role, Mr. Jenkins will provide strategic advice on CIGI’s international economy work program, including activities related to CIGI’s partnership project with the Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET) and broader macroeconomic issues.

“Paul Jenkins brings tremendous experience and knowledge of monetary policy, global financial systems and the governance arrangements that underpin them,” says Thomas Bernes, CIGI vice-president of programs and acting executive director. “His contributions will enrich CIGI’s programs of policy development for a more stable and growing global economy.”

A highly respected Canadian economist, Mr. Jenkins’ long and distinguished career with the Bank of Canada began in 1972 in the Bank's research department, shortly after he received a Master of Science degree in economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science in the U.K.

Mr. Jenkins served as Senior Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada from 2003 – 2010, after serving as Deputy Governor for 10 years. He was the Bank’s Chief Operating Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank. Mr. Jenkins’ duties included overseeing strategic planning, the conduct of monetary policy as a member of the Bank’s Governing Council, and participating in fulfilling the Bank’s responsibilities for promoting financial stability.
