摘要Click here to view the full book as an Adobe PDF. A key element in fundamental tax reform is reducing marginal taxa rates on wage income. But by how much would households increase their labor supply in response to a fall in marginal rates? And how much additional tax revenue would these extra earnings produce? In this book, using state-of-the-art statistical analysis of longitudinal data on U.S. households, Kniesner and Ziliak determine how progressive taxation of both wage and capital incomes affects the lifetime supply of labor, and they show the extent to which the tax reforms of the 1980s reduced the economic burden of progressive taxation. The Effects of Recent Tax Reforms on Labor Supply is one in a series of new AEI studies on topics relating to fundamental tax reform. These topics include the effect of taxation on household saving, the effects of reducing taxes on individuals’ work effort, issues in the taxation of financial services, and international issues in consumption taxation, among others. A list of publications in this series appears inside. Thomas J. Kniesner is professor of economics at Indiana University, Bloomington, where he teaches courses in labor and health economics. James P. Ziliak is an assistant professor of economics at the University of Oregon, Eugene.
