| 摘要 | Kevin Hassett of AEI and Alan Auerbach of UC Berkeley have co-authored “Capital Taxation in the 21st Century”, a response to Thomas Piketty’s bestselling book, Capital in the Twenty-First Century. Their critique undermines all parts of Piketty’s book: the data he presents, the theory he posits to explain the data, and the policy he proposes in response. Cumulatively, the points raised by Hassett and Auerbach pose a serious challenge to Piketty’s argument. A final version of the paper is forthcoming in the May 2015 edition of the American Economic Review: Papers and Proceedings. An extended preview of the paper is available here.
