The chief purpose of the Gender Equality and Inclusion Strategy (GESI) Report is to establish a baseline on gender- and environment-related civil society organizations in the Lower Mekong Sub-region: the nature of their organizations, their scope and scale of engagements, priority actions and agendas, and how they integrate gender and environment into their programs.
The baseline report is envisaged to inform the Mekong Partnership on Environment (MPE) Project’s Regional Stakeholder Engagement Analysis, through its recommendations on gender-inclusive and gender-equal strategies. The GESI reporting team culled findings from the Organizational Network Assessment (ONA) in the Lower Mekong Sub-region earlier administered by SEI-Asia, and conducted key informant interviews with representatives of regional civil society organizations (CSOs).
It was found that gender impact assessment and diagnostic tools are robust examples of the integration of gender with environmental concerns, and the closest we ever get to integrate gender into environmental standards.
