Most researchers and the general public believe that having health insurance equalizes access to medical services. In this book, Marian E. Gornick demonstrates that when the health care needs of racial minorities and the disadvantaged are taken into account, disparities continue to exist for those covered by Medicare. Gornick calls for a national education campaign to bring attention to these differences and urges the development of data systems that will allow these disparities to be more carefully studied.
