Fifteen years have passed since the Fourth World Conference on Women adopted a global platform for action on gender equality and women’s empowerment. This book evaluates the progress toward gender equality at work that has been achieved since then and identifies where and why obstacles continue to exist. Using the latest ILO key indicators of the labor market, it compares outcomes for men and women and highlights continuing disparities in opportunities and quality of employment.
The book calls for a paradigm of gender equality at work that ensures the same gains—economical, social and political—for women as for men. It urges countries to increase their efforts to promote gender justice at work by exploring innovative policy approaches that challenge lingering labor market biases.
