Developed in coordination with a key expert panel of waste management specialists from across Asia, the report comprises an indicator-based assessment of 3R policies in 11 countries including Japan, China, India, Thailand as well as the Pacific Island region. By utilizing comparable measures for waste prevention, recycling, biomass utilization, marine plastics prevention, and e-waste management, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), the report presents a headline review of progress made on waste and resource efficiency throughout Asia and the Pacific, and defines 9 concrete recommendations towards further improving waste management in the region.

In addition to addressing emerging waste issues such as marine pollution as viewed through the lens of various policy responses, State of the 3Rs in Asia and the Pacific offers a cross-country examination and comparison of different waste categories and criteria illustrated through innovative data visualization techniques, making it a must-read report for technical experts and practitioners interested in waste management, circular economy, and the current status of SDG 12 in Asia and Pacific countries.
