This chapter surveys the landscape of regional governance for sustainability in Asia, focusing on government-related regional and sub-regional institutions and cooperation frameworks related to the environment. Many of these frameworks include multi-stakeholder participation of non-governmental actors, but this chapter does not survey non-governmental organizations or frameworks. This chapter examines more broadly focused frameworks which include environmental issues, and could perform an integrating role as well as frameworks which specialize in environmental issues. There are many cooperation frameworks in the region, and this chapter endeavors to identify and classify the major ones. This chapter also discusses challenges facing these institutions and frameworks.
