And, more importantly, the US shale revolution has introduced a new source of supply, with very different production and financing strcutures. In this comment, Spencer Dale, the Chief Economist of BP, considers the implications of these changes and argues that the principles and beliefs that served us well in the past are no longer as useful for analysing the oil market. He calls for a new set of principles reflecting the New Economics of Oil. These four principles are: |
