Due to the result of IMF crisis, the restructuring of basic industries and heavy and chemical industries is requiring fundamental changes in national economic system and industrial structure that have been maintained for 50 years since the 1945 liberation of Korea. It is considered that the energy environment industry should be also joined in this industrial restructuring and change.
However, the energy industry is difficult to improve management efficiency and it is also hard to produce and supply high-quality products by using such methods as simple restructuring or M&A, due to its special characteristics of national basic industry. Therefore, concerning characteristics of basic industries, this study presented logical reasons to provide professionals related to energy and environment for fostering future-oriented and environmentally friendly energy industry and derived a education model by energy source and academic background.
The purpose of education model for professionals in the field of energy and environment is to train rational and efficient professionals who can be easy to adjust to knowledge-based industry system and industrial structure in future.
