On Friday, June 24, 2016, the Strategy Initiative at the Atlantic Council’s Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security released their National Security Council Reform project’s report, “A Foundational Proposal for the Next Administration” featuring introductions by former National Security Advisors Stephen Hadley and James Jones.

After interviewing over sixty senior former foreign policy, defense, and intelligence leaders, authors Ambassador Chester Crocker, Ambassador David Miller, Ambassador Thomas Pickering, and Daniel Levin discovered a wide-ranging, bipartisan consensus on the inefficiency of the National Security Council to strategically assess options and anticipate consequences. After introductory remarks from Stephen Hadley and James Jones, the authors shared the final recommendations from the report and explored how the next US administration should think about how the NSC can – and should – change in response to the world’s evolving challenges.
