On October 13, the Transatlantic Security Initiative hosted a private roundtable on “Enhancing Security and Defense in the Baltic States”. The session featured a keynote address by LTG Jonas Vytautas Žukas, Chief of Defense of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, and a moderated discussion led by James Hasik, Nonresident Senior Fellow for Defense with the Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security.

During this private meeting LTG Žukas discussed a variety of issues related to the threat environment in the Baltic Sea region and future opportunities for US-Nordic-Baltic defense cooperation. A select group of experts shared their insights on the key deliverables of the NATO Warsaw Summit, the way forward to their implementation, and their implications for the security of the Baltic States.

Before becoming Chief of Defense, LTG Jonas Vytautas Žukas served as Lithuania’s Military Representative to NATO and the EU. Prior to assuming this position, he also served as Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. Žukas also served as Acting Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force, Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, and Defense Attaché to Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
