This report contains a presentation of the effects of climate change on German coastal areas, possible courses of action through spatial planning and ICZM, possible methods for communication and participation, a description of the four case studies and recommendations for action for the implementation of ICZM, spatial planning and the funding of these measures. The report is available for download.

The research on the basis of case studies was an emphasis of the project. Various experiments on land use and the effects of climate change were conducted in administrative district Aurich, Kiel Fjord & Lübeck Bight, office Eiderstedt and Western-Pomerania. To ensure that local interests were considered in the project work, regional and local stakeholders were interviewed first. In the second phase, an expert team analysed which effects climate change has on the regions and which climate protection measures can be implemented there. Ecologic Institute was significantly involved in this step and examined the effects of climate change and possible solutions and conflicts. The research team then derived recommendations for action for each region based on the results of the first working phases.
