摘要 | class="field field-name-field-master-image field-type-image field-label-hidden"> The modern day "Atlantic lifestyle" has created patterns of production and consumption that have led to the overuse of natural resources, pollution of the environment and locked-in effects of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and climate change. In this chapter, authors from Ecologic Institute examine the complex interactions between society and the environment in the Atlantic Space and highlight examples of environmental governance. The full publication is available for download. The chapter "Human Environmental Dynamics and Responses in the Atlantic Space" by Katriona McGlade et al. is published in "Atlantic Future. Shaping a New Hemisphere for the 21st century: Africa, Europe and the Americas" edited by Jordi Bacaria and Laia Tarragona. The publication gathers insights from over four years of EU funded research in the Atlantic Future project. From 2011-2015, the project analysed the conceptualisation of the Atlantic Space, its evolution, trends and future scenarios in four main areas: economy and trade flows, energy and natural resources, institutions and citizens, and security. The project studied patterns of cooperation and presented strategies for EU engagement in the Atlantic Space in the context of changing power dynamics and relations. It highlights the Atlantic Space as a laboratory for globalisation and the multilateral solutions required to face the world’s new challenges. |
