This book provides an introduction to the various relevant international environmental regimes in the entire spectrum of international environmental policy. The individual contributions analyse, in the same manner, the origin, development and impacts of these regimes.

To effectively combat environmental problems, achieve long-term solutions and reduce public resistance to sometimes expensive environmental protection measures, international co-ordination is indispensable. For this reason, states have signed numerous international agreements in recent decades to protect the environment, within whose institutional framework they work on specific environmental problems.
Probably the largest part of international environmental policy work is connected with such intergovernmental environmental agreements and their respective political decision structures and processes. These institutions are officially called "international environmental regimes". Despite their substantial and increasing importance, there is no generally accessible introduction to the topic of international environmental regimes in the German-speaking countries. This book seeks to close this gap.
