On 14 October 2010, the German American Energy Forum - a one-day international event that aims to open a dialogue between experts on various energy issues - was held in Washington DC Michael Mehling, President of Ecologic Institute, Washington DC, moderated the first panel focused on energy infrastructure. Ecologic Institute is a supporting partner.

The German American Energy Forum was organized by the German American Chambers of Commerce, and was opened by the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the U.S, Dr. Klaus Scharioth. It received support from the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, Germany Trade and Invest, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Washington D.C, the Representative of German Industry and Trade, as well as the Transatlantic Climate Bridge. Experts from various fields in the energy sector, including energy policy, technology and infrastructure, convened to discuss current developments and compare experiences across the Atlantic.

The panel moderated by the Ecologic Institute comprised presentations by Bryan Hansel, President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of Smith Electric Vehicles, Matthias Kurth, President of the German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur), Austin Montgomery, Smart Grid Program Lead at the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute, Brian Rampp, Vice President of Corporate Strategy for Environment and Transportation at BMW North America, and Kent Saathoff, Vice President, System Planning and Operations, ERCOT.
