摘要 | Building from previous work related to technology transfer within the international climate change negotiations, Dominic Marcellino, Fellow at Ecologic Institute, gave an overview of the current state of the negotiations and needs for diffusion at a conference held by the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS). The all-day conference, sponsored in part by Daimler, consisted of three panels discussing different issues important for transatlantic exhange on energy and climate change. The first panel looked at intellectual property rights from American and German perspectives. Following that, the second panel looked at technology development and transfer. This included a discussion of the state of the negotiations, which is where Dominic Marcellino made his presentation [pdf, 150 KB, English]. Also on his panel were Prof. Joanna Lewis, of Georgetown University, and Alan Miller, of the International Finance Corporation. The final panel looked at metropolitan energy challenges focusing specifically on opportunities for better regional planning, greater use of energy efficiency, and applications of district heating. Prof. Miranda Schreuers of the Freie Universität Berlin (Germany) and Dale Medearis, of the Northern Virginia Regional Commission, organized the speakers and panels with the institutional support of AICGS. Dr. Jackson Janes, Executive Director of AICGS, provided framing and closing comments, and Elliott Diringer, of the Pew Center on Global Climate Change, provided the keynote address. |
