The Ecologic Institute continues to be actively involved in the debate on the ongoing negotiations on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and its environmental impact. On 23 April 2014, Max Grünig, Senior Fellow at the Ecologic Institute, participated as a panelist in a stakeholder forum on TTIP in Washington D.C. The event involved experts and policy makers from the US and the EU, and focused on the potential consequences of TTIP for environment and health protection. A particular relevant topic was the protection of investors.

Max Grünig participated in a panel on "TTIP, Energy and the Environment". He underlined that there is a general tendency to underestimate the effects of trade legislation. This is exemplified by both the US Interstate Commerce Clause and the internal market of the EU - both of them have an overarching signifcance for various policy areas.

Other speakers during the event included  Dan Mullaney, Chief US Negotiator for the TTIP and Assistant United States Trade Representative as well as Reinhard Bütikofer, Member of the European Parliament, former Chair of Germany's Green Party.
