摘要 | On 17 August 2016, McKenna Davis, Fellow at Ecologic Institute, held a presentation on "Barriers and Success Factors for cooperation under Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA)" for the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Bonn. The presentation was part of a workshop focusing on the challenges to and solutions for fostering EbA for decision-makers and practitioners within a multi-sectoral governance landscape within the GIZ's "Environment Climate Biodiversity" symposium. The results presented came from a study commissioned by the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN). Both the presentation and original study are available for download. Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) is an approach which addresses the links between climate change, biodiversity, ecosystem services and sustainable resource management in order to support soceity’s adaptation to climate change. By implementing and introducing the EbA approach, countries can be assisted in their adaptation efforts while also creating a multitude of wider socio-economic and biodiversity benefits. However, while EbA is gaining increasing importance in national climate policies and within the international climate debate, predominantly "grey" infrastructure is actually planned and implemented in practice. Reasons for this are inter alia the lack of transferable and user-friendly concepts, methods, tools for the integration of existing EbA in planning, financing and implementation processes. The GIZ-organized symposium took steps to address these gaps via strategically selected case study presentations and subsequent expert discussions. |
