Migration Flows and Policies: India at a Turning Point Notes de l'Ifri, October 2014
India hosts millions of economic migrants from neighboring countries, especially Nepal and Bangladesh. It is also a haven for large refugee communities from Tibet or Sri Lanka. In the past years, India’s dynamic economic growth has brought in new types of migrants: young European graduates, entrepreneurs and highly skilled Indian migrants returning home.  How does the Indian government manage these flows? Do the existing institutional and legislative arrangements respond to the challenges posed by India’s increasing attractiveness for workers in the region and beyond? What is the vision of Indian policymakers on the issue of immigration? Anjali Kumar brings first insights on this new issue of the Indian public debate. This paper is part of the "Emerging markets and migration policies" publication series.
