General El-Sisi’s Egypt: Reaction and Revolutionary Aspirations Politique étrangère, Vol. 83, No. 1, Spring 2018
The Egyptian presidential election of spring 2018 will, in all likelihood, result in Abdel Fattah El-Sisi maintaining power, given the tight control over the opposition. The head of state’s record is far from good, however. The security situation in Egypt has deteriorated, poverty is increasing, and personal freedoms are in retreat. The hope born of the revolution of January 25, 2011, has given way to bitterness, frustration, and anger. Chloé Berger is a Research Advisor at the Middle-East Faculty of the NATO Defense College. Article published in Politique étrangère, Vol. 83, No. 1, Spring 2018.
