To document the information presented in chapters 6 and 9 and to provide data useful to scholars of trade policymaking, we have posted comprehensive lists of trade cases brought to the US government and to the World Trade Organization (WTO). All of these were compiled, under my direction, by an exceptional group of research assistants, most of whom were also my students at the University of Maryland School of Public Policy. My debt to all of them is substantial, as will be evident to anyone who delves into the case lists. For time consistency, the data represent the situation as of December 31, 2004.

The WTO cases were prepared and analyzed by Andrew Mosley. The antidumping and countervailing duty cases were initially compiled by Diane Berliner for the first edition. Paul Baker updated her work for the second edition, as did Steven Schoeny for the third. Tomoyuki Sho began reviewing and updating the case lists in the early 2000s and contributed additional modes of analysis. Andrew Mosley brought the work to completion in 2004–05.

Due to differing counting rules, there are slight inconsistencies in a few of the annual CVD case totals between the numbers in tables 6.1 and 9.1 in the text and the numbers the assiduous scholar would arrive at by counting the cases in the comprehensive CVD list. Please accept my apologies.
