摘要 | Automatics waste collection systems are an alternative to conventional waste collection (via trucks). These are high-capital systems, with a significant economies of scale advantages. Additionally, such systems dramatically reduce – and even eliminate – operational costs associated with conventional collection, therefore a viable solution – especially in large neighborhoods with high-level buildings.
As part of its efforts to improve residential waste collection and treatment, the Ministry of Environmental Protection examines the environmental and economic feasibility of integrating pneumatic refuse collection systems in new, high-density, residential neighborhoods. The goal is to assess the economic benefits of using such systems from the perspective of the waste treatment authorities – meaning the local municipalities. A range of stakeholders are involved in the application of these systems – each with a distinct set of benefits and costs, which are separately analyzed.
