摘要

This report examines changes in insurance coverage between 2013 and 2014 using data from the American Community Survey. During that time period, the uninsured rate fell 3.6 percentage points, meaning 9.4 million fewer nonelderly Americans were uninsured. Gains in coverage were primarily through Medicaid and private nongroup coverage, as expected based on the reforms of the Affordable Care Act. Disparities in uninsured rates by race and ethnicity, income, age, and education level all decreased, but large gaps remain, and nonexpansion of Medicaid will likely limit the progress that can be made on closing those gaps going forward.
