| 摘要 | Although about two-thirds of the children with special health care needs in the U.S. are insured through private, employer-based plans, little is known about the extent of family cost sharing for this vulnerable and high-cost group. This study used data from two large commercial managed care plans in UnitedHealth Group to determine the level of costs for covered services that families of these children incurred. The researchers found that families paid over 10 percent of the total costs of covered services provided to these children. Moreover, from 1999 to 2001, average monthly costs paid by families increased 38 percent overall; the increase was greater for families of children with more serious conditions. Families paid the highest proportion of total costs for mental health services, prescription drugs, and primary care, raising issues for the future in light of growing expectations for employees to share a greater proportion of health care costs. |
