摘要 | Using sibling data from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics linked with U.S. Census data, the authors examine whether the quality of a person's childhood neighborhood influences where one resides as an adult. Descriptively, the study finds that childhood neighborhood conditions of black and white children are vastly different. Few whites live in the most disadvantaged neighborhoods, and few blacks live in the most advantaged neighborhoods. Using a sibling fixed effects regression model, the authors find that living in a disadvantaged neighborhood as a child negatively influences the quality of the neighborhood one lives in as an adult. These neighborhood effects are particularly strong among children who grow up in the most disadvantaged neighborhoods. |
