| 摘要 | The Food Stamp Program (FSP), the largest of the 15 domestic food and nutrition assistance programs administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service, provides millions of Americans with the means to purchase food for a nutritious diet. This report presents an overview of the FSP eligibility requirements and benefit levels, as well as the characteristics of food stamp households and participants nationwide, for fiscal year 2006. In an average month, food stamp benefits were provided to nearly 26.7 million people living in over 11.7 million households. The total cost of the program was $32.9 billion. Compared with fiscal year 2005, the total number of participants increased by four percent, and FSP benefits increased by six percent. |
